Dr. Scholtz is a consultant psychiatrist who is specialised in the management of obesity related disorders and the preparation of patients for bariatric surgery for the past 5 years, based at the Imperial Weight Centre, Charing Cross Hospital. She graduated from Stellenbosch University and completed her highre specialist training at St. George's University of London. She has expertise in the management of eating disorders and obesity, and has worked withing 3 different national referral centres in this field.
She is expert at providing psychiatric assessment and support to patients undergoing bariatric surgery, having assessed and guided over 1000 patients through this process. She has training in various psychotherapeutic approaches and uses cognitive behavioural or cognitive analytical approach in preparing patients when required.
She is currently undertaking a PhD, funded by the Wellcome Trust Charity examining appetite changes in patients who have undergone bariatric surgery using functional magnetic resonance imaging, and has publications in peer-reviewed journals on eating disorders and obesity.
